Catchment Action Plan
The new approach to natural resource improvement is based on a regional natural resource model encapsulated in a Catchment Action Plan (CAP) achieving landscape scale improvement. Underpinning the CAP is sound science and knowledge to understand the catchment which clarifies the key natural resource assets to be protected or improved, so that the state of the catchment, the pressures on the catchment and the response by the CMA and Governments are explicit and well targeted.
Through the ten-year CAP, the Lower Murray Darling Catchment Management Authority (LMD CMA) has clearly outlined the outcomes to be achieved in one year, in three years and in ten years. These outcomes are described by Catchment and Management Targets grouped under themes for targets agreed to by State and Australian Governments. The catchment standards and targets for each CMA region have been developed locally from a regional perspective in response to the national framework and state level standards and targets. In turn, they will guide investment in natural resource management in the Lower Murray Darling Catchment.
