Native Vegetation – Native Vegetation Communities

The native vegetation communities, which cover over 90% of the catchment, can be affected in both beneficial and damaging ways by the diverse range of land-uses. Apart from the riverine areas, habitat loss associated with clearing, grazing and harvesting of dead timber has the greatest impact on the catchment's biodiversity.

A number of vegetation communities have been significantly reduced in extent resulting in increased threat to native plants and animals. Threatening factors such as total grazing pressure (the impact of grazing by all animals) altered fire and flood regimes have brought about broad scale changes to the floristic, structural and ecological integrity of many of the vegetation communities.
