Riverine Health – Thegoa Lagoon Project
Background
This Project is a cooperative venture with Wentworth Shire Council to implement the Thegoa Lagoon Management Plan and improve water quality.
The Thegoa Lagoon Management Plan addresses a number of issues, including ground water salinity risk, water management, wetland wetting and drying regimes, fish access and habitat, cultural heritage, land management and monitoring.
Thegoa Lagoon and Reserve is highly significant to the Aboriginal community due to its location at the junction of the Murray & Darling Rivers. In the past, Thegoa was an important meeting place and food resource. The area contains numerous sites including burial sites, scarred trees, middens and campsite remnants.
This project is almost complete with a native fish friendly structure to replace a pipe system to be constructed in 2006.
